Lake Royal Apartments

Lake Royal Apartments is a 13-story apartment building that had sustained damage in the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake.  Evaluation of results of Nonlinear Response History Analysis (NLRHA) led to the proposed strategic strengthening.  Retrofit solution included strengthening of:

1. Existing concrete shear walls and certain vulnerable spandrel beams between the shear walls (FRP)
2. Certain areas of transfer podium diaphragm at two levels (thickening of the concrete slab and strengthening collectors)
3. Vulnerable load transfer columns
